Our Candidate

Having grown up in Histon where she studied at Impington Village College before studying at Cambridge University, Kathryn has a broad, lived experience of Cambridgeshire and cares deeply about the people who live there. She currently works as a landscape designer, with a particular interest in biodiversity and nature-based solutions.

She believes in the bold positive change and that all issues require a holistic and long- term approach. It is clear to her that problems such as inequality and the climate crisis are intrinsically linked and that we must do all that we can to rectify the current state of climate emergency. There can be no climate justice without social justice, so whatever the proposed solution is, it must work ethically as well as environmentally.

She is a proud feminist and will always fight for women’s autonomy over their own bodies. She is an LGBTQAI+ ally and is especially passionate about protecting the trans community against violence. She will fight for the rights of minorities and those who suffer under discrimination. She is an antiracist and continues to educate herself around racial discrimination. Kathryn stays informed on difficulties facing the disabled community and cares greatly about accessibility. She opposes the genocide of the Palestinian population and backs the Green Party in its calls for a ceasefire and the end to all arms sales to Israel.

Kathryn believes social mobility is the cornerstone to a thriving society. Cambridge is the most unequal city in the UK as well as one of the most unaffordable. During the pandemic she volunteered at Waterbeach foodbank and at Cambridge Community Kitchen so it is obvious to her how critical the situation is. To mirror the Green Party’s taxation policy, she is an advocate for a wealth tax to redistribute wealth through the means of a properly funded welfare state. That includes substantial investment in the NHS and nationalisation of public services. She supports the introduction of a Universal Basic Income as a way to immediately end poverty in this country and to liberate everyone to pursue the life that they deserve. An important part of social mobility includes sustainable public transport infrastructure for which Histon, Impington and Orchard Park would benefit hugely.

Her background in architecture means that she has a keen interest in the housing crisis. She is an advocate for the creation of council housing which she believes has the potential to innovate low-cost housing design in the UK through the reintroduction of architects into local councils, giving them the opportunity to reinvent the sustainable, modern home. She would also like to see rent controls introduced so that tenants can have greater stability as well as the capacity to save for their own home

A declaration of integrity from Kathryn:

As much as I have a personal desire to see positive change, I am here to represent the people in our ward, to voice their concerns and defend their rights. I am not here for personal gain and will make sure to keep it this way. I have chosen to apply for this position out of a real belief that a better, kinder and greener future is possible and will therefore perform the role to the best of my ability.
