Greens celebrate historic breakthrough!

Members of the Cambridge Green Party are celebrating winning two out of three of the City Council seats in Abbey ward, on top of a strong showing in the rest of Cambridge. With 20% of the vote across the City, a confident Green Party looks forward to more gains in future years.

Naomi Bennett, who topped the poll, said, ‘Abbey has been my home for for over 20 years. It is a huge honour and privilege to represent the residents of the most friendly and neighbourly ward in Cambridge.’

Dr Hannah Charlotte Copley, also elected, said, ‘I love Abbey ward, and feel privileged to be chosen to serve the residents who elected us on Thursday. Coronavirus has caused so many people to face social isolation, financial problems and job insecurity. As we come out of this pandemic I really want to focus on building up our sense of community again and reconnecting with one another so that we all truly feel that Abbey is our home.’
